At Fort Lee Baptist Church, the mission of the Board of Deacons is a simple one; we are here to “wait tables”.

The concept and reasoning behind the establishment of “Deacons”, was to free the ministers and church leaders from the duties connected with caring for the widows and others unable to completely take care of themselves.  These steps were not done because the church leaders felt they were above these tasks and weren’t concerned for those in need.  It was actually just the opposite.  They cared so much for their “neighbors in need” they were spending too much time helping them and found themselves neglecting the duties they were specifically called to do; to preach and teach the gospel of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

The members of the Board of Deacons at Fort Lee Baptist Church have committed individually and as a group, to carry out the duties as originally intended by those early church leaders.  While “waiting on tables” can be defined in many ways, our underlying goal is to monitor the welfare of our brothers and sisters in Christ and to provide physical support when possible and prayerful support always.
